Kings shoot down Pronger rumour

Published: Friday, June 12, 2009The Los Angeles Kings have thrown cold water on rumours of a blockbuster trade that had the Kings acquiring all-star defenceman Chris Pronger from the Anaheim Ducks.
Several online sites reported Friday that the trade would send Pronger to the Kings for defenceman Jack Johnson and the fifth overall pick in this month's NHL entry draft.
Friday afternoon, the Kings denied there was a deal.
"Nothing to this deal . . . an unfounded rumour," Kings spokesman Jeff Moeller wrote in an e-mail to Canwest News Service.
Teams are unable to make trades until after the Stanley Cup final has been completed.
Johnson, 22, was selected in the first round, third overall, in the 2005 entry draft by the Carolina Hurricanes. The six-foot-one, 225-pound blue-liner scored six goals and five assists in 41 games last season with the Kings, his second season in the NHL.
Pronger, 34, has played 15 seasons in the NHL with Hartford, St. Louis, Edmonton and Anaheim. The six-foot-six, 214-pounder is a three-time Olympian for Team Canada.
The entry draft takes place on June 26-27 in Montreal.
