Newark, NJ - In a season that had already witnessed him add two more records to his stellar career, Martin Brodeur captured one more in a 4-0 win over Pittsburgh on Monday as he set the NHL's all-time shutout record.
Thanks to a 35-save performance against the high-powered Penguins offense, Brodeur notched the 104th save of his career to surpass Terry Sawchuk for No. 1 on the list. He had tied Sawchuk's mark in a 3-0 win against Buffalo on December 7.
The four-time Vezina Trophy winner is now the holder of all the big goaltender marks with most wins (580), games played (1,032) and minutes played (60,962).
A seven-time 40-win netminder, which is also an NHL record, Brodeur has started at least 70 games in 11 of his 17 seasons and is 580-307-24 with 105 ties. He began his career with the Devils in 1991-92 and has never worn another sweater, backstopping New Jersey to three Stanley Cups in an eight- year span (1995-2003).
This year, he is 23-8-1 with three shutouts over 33 appearances.
