The Leafs claimed goaltender Martin Gerber off re-entry waivers from the Senators on Wednesday. Speculation is that the Leafs will shut down injured stopper Vesa Toskala for the season.
Toronto also claimed defenceman Erik Reitz off waivers from the New York Rangers.
In other waiver wire activity, the Dallas Stars claimed forward Brendan Morrison from the Anaheim Ducks and the Pittsburgh Penguins claimed forward Craig Adams from the Chicago Blackhawks.
Veteran forward Gary Roberts, who was placed on waivers by the Tampa Bay Lightning; forward Miroslav Satan, who was waived by Pittsburgh; and Aaron Voros of the New York Rangers, went unclaimed.
