THE DEBRIEF

Two minutes after Daniel Sedin’s bank shot tied it, the Canucks surrendered the winning goal with 7:05 remaining when Thomas Hickey’s point shot bounced through traffic and into the Vancouver net. The bad bounce was indicative of the Canucks’ night, as Vancouver scored two own goals — shots by Islanders Travis Hamonic and Anders Lee, pictured, that went in off Dan Hamhuis and Ben Hutton. Linden Vey scored on a power play for the Canucks.

BY THE NUMBERS

Hutton, the Canucks’ rookie defenceman, logged a season-high 25:03 of ice time, but got only one of seven shots on target ... Chris Tanev and Markus Granlund, pictured, finished minus-two, and Granlund and Yannick Weber were the only Canucks without a shot on net ... Hits were 29-13 for New York, and 14 of 18 Islanders registered at least one ... Henrik Sedin was 5-15 on faceoffs, John Tavares 13-6 ... Shots were 33-24 for Vancouver, 6-2 in the first period.

JACOB’S LADDER

After four straight wins, Canuck goalie Jacob Markstrom, pictured, has lost three in a row. Starting for the first time since Feb. 19, Markstrom allowed three goals on 24 shots. During his losing streak, Markstrom’s save percentage is .857 and his goals-against average is 4.38. He is 9-8-4 for the season.

JANNIK PANIC

Canuck first-line winger Jannik Hansen was a surprise scratch due to an undisclosed injury. With winger Radim Vrbata (lower body) missing a third straight game, centre Adam Cracknell lost on waivers Monday to Edmonton and minor-leaguer Brendan Gaunce on his way from the Utica Comets, extra defenceman Yannick Weber dressed as the 12th forward. Three-goal scorer Emerson Etem, pictured, replaced Hansen on the top line with Daniel and Henrik Sedin.

NEXT UP

The Canucks’ five-game homestand ends Thursday against the San Jose Sharks, who scored four times in the third period on Sunday to win 4-1 at Rogers Arena. It will be the end of a scheduling stretch that gave Vancouver 11 of 14 games on home ice. Instead of taking advantage of the schedule to boost their playoff drive, the Canucks are 2-7-1 at home the last five weeks. At 11-15-5, the Canucks are 29th in the NHL on home ice.
