Vancouver Giants trade Matt Bellerive to Red Deer Rustlers
Third-year player was a healthy scratch in season opener, requested move
The Vancouver Giants continued to pare down their bloated roster Monday by trading right winger Matt Bellerive to the Red Deer Rebels for a third-round pick in the 2014 Western Hockey League bantam draft.
Bellerive, who was a second-round selection in '09, was in his third season with the Giants.
He was a healthy scratch in Friday's regular-season opener, prompting him to request a trade.
In 103 games with Vancouver, including playoffs, Bellerive collected 10 goals and 12 assists.
The Giants' roster now sits at 26 players, including injured defenceman Arvin Atwal. Don Hay's 0-2-0-0 club next sees action Friday when it entertains the Everett Silvertips at Pacific Coliseum in a 7:30 p.m. start.
