The Vancouver Giants will have a full list of things to work at practice this week after opening their Western Hockey League regular season with a pair of losses to the Victoria Royals.
The Royals completed the home-and-home weekend split on Saturday with a 3-2 victory in front of 6,579 fans at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena in Victoria.
Ben Walker, Brandon Magee and Alex Gogolex scored for the Royals, who lead 1-0 after the first period and 3-0 after the second. Nathan Burns and Cain Franson scored for the Giants, who outshot the hosts 25-23. Franson has three goals in two games.
Victoria won Friday’s game in Vancouver 6-4. Attendance at the Pacific Coliseum was 7,812.
POKE CHECKS: The Giants released 20-year-old centre Taylor Makin on the weekend and assigned him to Brooks of the Alberta Junior League ... Third-year forward Matt Bellerive has gone home after requesting a trade. He didn't dress for either of the Victoria games ... Vancouver’s next action is Friday when they host the Everett Silvertips (7:30 p.m., Team 1040) at the Pacific Coliseum.
