LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — The Lethbridge Hurricanes scored five times in the first period Wednesday en route to a 7-4 Western Hockey League victory over the Vancouver Giants.

Reid Duke scored twice and added an assist for the Hurricanes (21-18-6), while Jaimen Yakubowski had two goals of his own.

Remi Laurencelle chipped in with a goal and an assist, while Adam Henry and Michael Sofillas also scored for Lethbridge.

Ty Rimmer made 28 saves to get the win.

Anthony Ast, Luca Leone, Travis McEvoy and Jackson Houck replied for Vancouver (11-32-0). Tyler Morrisson had three assists for the Giants, with Cain Fraser adding two of his own.

New Giants' goalie Jared Rathjen stopped 24 shots in taking the loss.

Trailing 5-1 after the first period, the Giants cut Lethbridge’s lead to 5-4 after two periods.

But Yakubowski made it 6-4 at 6:43 of the third before adding an empty netter with 64 seconds left in regulation.

Lethbridge finished the night 1-for-3 on the power play, while Vancouver wound up 2-for-3.
