RED DEER, Alta. — Brett Kulak scored once in regulation then the winner in the shootout as the Vancouver Giants edged the host Red Deer Rebels 5-4 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.

Cain Franson, Trevor Cheek and Jackson Houck also scored for the Giants (11-28-0), who came into the contest with only two wins in their last 10 contests, and Anthony Ast chipped in with two assists.

Dominik Volek scored twice for the Rebels (22-16-4), who are winless in four games, and Turner Elson had a goal and an assist.

Tyler Fuhr made 27 saves for the win as Bolton Pouliot allowed three goals on 19 shots before getting replaced by Grant Naherniak, who picked up the loss after stopping 11-of-12 shots in relief.

Vancouver went 2-for-4 on the power play while Red Deer went 1-for-3.
