Vancouver Canucks have asked the Toronto Maple Leafs for permission to talk to Dallas Eakins, head coach of the Marlies, according to a report on Hockey Night in Canada.

The Canucks are in the market for a new head coach after the NHL team fired Alain Vigneault and his assistants following a straight-games loss to San Jose Sharks in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Eakins, who has coached the top farm club of the Maple Leafs since 2009, has two years left on a three-year contract to coach the American Hockey League team.
