EDMONTON - With Nikolai Khabibulin expected to be back in Edmonton Oilers silks for the team's upcoming three-game road trip, goalie Yann Danis has been placed on waivers by the NHL club for the purpose of assigning him to their AHL affiliate in Oklahoma City.

Danis, 31, started the shortened NHL season with the Oilers after it was determined Khabibulin, the designated Oilers backup goaltender, was not ready for action.

Danis, who put in two periods of shutout work last week in the Oilers' 6-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks, was recalled from the Oklahoma City Barons on Jan. 17. He had played 28 games with the Barons, registering a 2.99 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage.

Khabibulin said during training camp there are no physical issues, but that when he started seeing more NHL shooters at camp, he realized he needed to see more practice pucks.

The 40-year-old is in the final year of his contract.

“There aren’t any pre-season games, so you can’t take a mulligan," Khabibulin said at the time. "(And) I feel like I’m not quite there yet. I need to see more shots in practice."

More to come...

Are the Kings done?

No way, just a bump in the road.
Yes, it is over for them.
Don't know.
