Edmonton Oilers shuffle lines as Anton Lander out of action for a month with broken foot
Centre left game against Dallas Stars early due to injury, Chris VandeVelde recalled from AHL
EDMONTON - Anton Lander will miss at least a month of NHL action due to a broken foot, the Edmonton Oilers announced Friday morning.
Lander, who joins Shawn Horcoff and Eric Belanger as the Oilers centres out of action due to injury, broke his foot early in Tuesday's game against the visiting Dallas Stars.
The team recalled centre Chris VandeVelde Friday from the AHL Oklahoma City Barons to replace him on the roster.
Belanger could return to action Sunday on the road against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Oilers head coach Ralph Krueger said.
Krueger rolled out some new line combinations during a team skate Friday morning in Leduc. It sees star winger Taylor Hall paired with centre Sam Gagner and winger Ales Hemsky, with Teemu Hartikainen joining Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle on the other top line.
Ben Eager, who is slated to return to the Oilers lineup for Saturday's game in Detroit, slides into the lineup alongside Lennert Petrell and Ryan Smyth, who'll centre the third unit. Rookie Nail Yakupov played with Belanger and Magnus Paajarvi at the Leduc practice.
Krueger said via Twitter the line combinations "could change tomorrow" once VandeVelde joins the team.
