WASHINGTON — U.S. President Barack Obama will honor two championship sports teams from California at the White House next Tuesday.
Obama will hold a ceremony to welcome the NHL Los Angeles Kings and winner of the Stanley Cup. He'll also honor the L.A. Galaxy, the championship Major League Soccer team.
After the
ceremony, the White House says the teams will head down to the South
Lawn to host an exercise clinic for children. The clinic is in support
of first lady Michelle Obama's anti-childhood obesity effort.
The White House says the children participating in the clinic come from soccer and hockey programs in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Boston, Cleveland, Columbus, Ohio, Detroit and Washington, D.C.
The Kings won the Stanley Cup in June, defeating the New Jersey Devils in six games to claim the franchise's first NHL title.
