GAVLE, Sweden - Cody Franson is committed to spending an entire season in Sweden - whether the NHL lockout gets resolved or not.

The unsigned Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman and former Vancouver Giant agreed to a contract with Brynas on Monday.

In announcing the signing, the Swedish Elite League team made it clear that Franson would spend the entire year with them.

"It's really inspiring to come to Brynas, and stay the whole season," Franson, a Sicamous, B.C. native, said in a statement.

The 25-year-old defenceman was a restricted free agent who went unsigned by Toronto throughout the summer.

Franson appeared in 57 games with Toronto last season, scoring five goals and 16 assists.
