THREE STARS

1. Zach Parise, Wild: Hard-working yet virtually invisible during the two games contested at the Scotiabank Saddledome earlier, one of the Wild’s mega-bucks acquisitions is flying all over the ice on this night. And noticeable on virtually every shift. And, of course, the OT winner.

2. Joey MacDonald, Flames: Performing beyond all expectations. Wasn’t his fault the lead slipped away.

3. Ryan Suter, Wild: Another superb performance, tons of the ice time.

WHY THE FLAMES LOST

Because with ample opportunity to put the game on ice, they came up woefully short before Mark Giordno’s gloving the puck ahead penalty late in the third led to the overtime defeat.

THE BIG FIGHT

No bouts scheduled.

THE BIG SAVE

Give it up to Flames’ defenceman Mark Giordano, johnny on the spot to sweep a Zach Parise backhander off the goal line with his side clinging to the one-goal lead just past the midway point of the first period.

THE BIG HIT

Parise, not the biggest hombre in town, hunts down Calgary D-man Dennis Wideman in the corner and absolutely plants him into the boards with a resounding Thud!

THE ROSTERS

Calgary scratches — D Cory Sarich, D Anton Babchuk, G Miikka Kiprusoff (knee), C Mikael Backlund (knee), F Akim Aliu (knee).

Minnesota scratches — D Nate Prosser, C Zenon Konopka, RW Cal Clutterbuck (thigh contusion).
