THREE STARS

1. Gabriel Landeskog, Avalanche: Rounding into form in his fourth game back from injury. Scores a great power-forward goal, driving past D-man T.J. Brodie before one-handing behind goalie Joey MacDonald while crashing the net, and adds two helpers.

2. Jarome Iginla, Flames: Captain coming out his funk. Another two snipes, including momentum-shifting fourth goal for his side.

3. Matt Duchene, Avalanche: On a wild and wooly evening, he swats home the winner to bring Colorado all the way back.

WHY THE FLAMES LOST

Because they collapsed in embarrassing fashion, blowing 3-0 and 4-2 period leads.

THE BIG SAVE

Not many on this night. But Flames goalie Joey MacDonald stretches across as a 30-foot diagnonal reaches Matt Duchene’s stick blade at the post and deflects off the post. MacDonald has the presence of mind to lunge back and smother the bouncing puck in the blue paint.

THE BIG HIT

An ill-advised one — Avs’ winger Patrick Bordeleau revving up to take a run at Calgary’s Akim Aliu. The resulting boarding penalty provided the platform for Jarome Iginla to count his second of the night and restore a two-goal Flames’ advantage.

THE ROSTERS

Calgary scratches — D Cory Sarich, D Anton Babchuk, G Miikka Kiprusoff (knee), C Mikael Backlund (knee), RW Tim Jackman.

Colorado scratches — D Stefan Elliott, RW Aaron Palushaj.

Yes, it's about time.
No, they still need better players.
Only time will tell.
