VANCOUVER — Linebacker Adam Bighill is the best B.C. Lion of 2015 in two categories — overall outstanding player and defensive player — as the nine Canadian Football League teams on Thursday announced their finalists for league player awards.

Bighill wasn’t the player most feted by his team, though. That honour fell to Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Jeff Knox Jr., and Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive end Jamaal Westerman, who received three nominations in balloting for the CFL's individual awards.

Knox was a unanimous pick as Saskatchewan's outstanding player, defensive player and rookie while Westerman was a unanimous selection as Winnipeg's top Canadian and also got the nod as its top player and defensive player.

Voting was conducted by members of the Football Reporters of Canada as well as the nine CFL head coaches.

The other multiple nominee, besides Bighill, in first-round voting was Montreal Alouettes returner Stefan Logan (outstanding player, special-teams player).

Quarterback Henry Burris was a unanimous selection as the Ottawa Redblacks’ outstanding player nominee while 2014 Grey Cup MVP Bo Levi Mitchell got the nod for the Calgary Stampeders and injured quarterback Zach Collaros was voted the Hamilton Tiger-Cats outstanding player.

The other top player award nominees were quarterbacks Trevor Harris of the Toronto Argonauts and Mike Reilly of the Edmonton Eskimos.

The division nominees will be unveiled next week with the CFL honouring its top individual performers Nov. 26 in Winnipeg.
