There’s been at least five different versions of the B.C. Lions logo over the years, so the CFL club has no trouble asking for submissions on another.
At a news conference to announce plans to pay tribute to their 60th season, the Lions are asking fans to come up with a suitable design to recognize the anniversary in a contest that will end March 1 and is open only to B.C. residents.
The club came up with anniversary marks to commemorate previous milestones, like its 50th anniversary in 2003, as well as the province’s 100th birthday, when the Lions wore a different logo in 1971. This year’s logo, according to the club’s website, could be used in conjunction with marketing plans.
“This club was actually named through a fan contest. We want to inspire people to help us celebrate this season,” marketing director Stefan Kalenchuk said.
The club held a news conference Tuesday at the Vancouver Club, where the Lions held their first annual meeting exactly 60 years earlier.
