Geroy Simon’s value on the CFL market didn’t take long to establish, and Thursday he was traded by the B.C. Lions to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the CFL team announced this morning.

The Lions did not announce any specifics regarding the deal, but reports from Regina and elsewhere early today had the Lions receiving a mid-round draft pick and import player.  On the Riders website, the club announced Simon had been obtained for import receiver Justin Harper and a third round pick in the 2014 Canadian draft.

Simon was to make a reported $205,000 as part of his 2013 Lions deal, a salary that figured to scare off most teams. However after the Riders backed off initially Wednesday, when Simon and agent Dan Vertlieb were able to talk to other teams, Saskatchewan general manager Brendan Taman was able to reportedly get Simon to agree to a reduced salary. It is not known whether Lions general manager Wally Buono attempted to match the offer.

The deal marks the end of an unparalleled 12-run Lions run by the 14-year CFL veteran, who established career marks in receiving and combined yards during his B.C. stay. Simon will turn 38 midway through his 15th season.
