Re: “Habs sign Subban to two-year deal” (Hockey Inside/Out, Jan. 28)

The Habs desperately needed P.K. Subban in our lineup. We do have a nice nucleus of talent, which includes heavy hitter Alexei Emelin, shut down defender Josh Gorges, and playmakers in Andrei Markov and Raphael Diaz. If there is one hole in this unit, it is a true goal scorer. Now with Subban signed, he brings a spark to the blue line.

In Subban’s two full regular seasons with the Habs, he has ranked first and sixth respectively among defenders in power play goals. He has also been among the defensive leaders in points those years. We need offence more than ever, since last year’s leading point getter, Max Pacioretty, is out for three to four weeks!

Marc Bergevin did a masterful job in playing the “waiting game” in this situation. With this two-year contract, Bergevin has an opportunity to re-evaluate Subban and determine his true worth. A great move for the Habs organization and a real treat for the fans.

Good luck P.K.!
