Leafs place Mitchell, Toskala on IR

Published: Tuesday, November 24, 2009The Toronto Maple Leafs have recalled goaltender Joey MacDonald from the Toronto Marlies after placing veteran goalie Vesa Toskala on injured reserve.
The Leafs also placed forward John Mitchell on injured reserve on Tuesday.
Both Toskala and Mitchell were injured in Monday night's 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Islanders. Toskala left the game with a groin injury while Mitchell injured a knee.
MacDonald, 29, was originally recalled by the Leafs on Oct. 8 and played in three games, posting a 3.35 goals-against average and a .875 save percentage. In six games with the Marlies he has a record of 2-4-0, a 2.83 GAA and a .892 save percentage.
Mitchell had two goals and seven assists in22 games this season, while Toskala sported a 1-4-2 mark with a 3.91 GAA and .865 save percentage.
