Next Wednesday night's celebration will feature a video tribute to Linden as well as keynote speeches from former teammates, coaches and friends of the long-time star forward, the team said in a statement. Linden, who was drafted second overall in the 1988 NHL entry draft by the Canucks, retired after last season.
The night dedicated to the former team captain will be highlighted by a pre-game ceremony in which Linden's No. 16 will be retired. That number will join Stan Smyl's No. 12 in the rafters at GM Place. Smyl's number was retired in the Pacific Coliseum on Nov. 3, 1991.
The Canucks also announced that the doors at GM Place will open to the public at 5 p.m. next Wednesday. The club recommends that fans are in their seats no later than 5:45 p.m. to watch the ceremony.
Faceoff time for the Canucks-Oilers game is 7:30 p.m. Linden will be a guest on Rogers Sportsnet's pre-game show at 7 p.m.
