Storyline: It's desperation time for the Sabres, who are stuck in their longest losing slide (0-4-3) since 2003 and continue to struggle to score. The Senators, however, are keeping fresh in their minds the fact they blew a 3-0 lead against the Sabres last Friday before rebounding to win 5-3 on a pair of late goals. Senators goaltender Martin Gerber is back in the net for the first time since yielding 10 goals in a rough stretch against the Washington Capitals before and after New Year's.

Who's hot: Senators RW Daniel Alfredsson and (five goals, five assists) and C Mike Fisher (seven goals, three assists) are both on five-game point scoring streaks, and forward Randy Robitaille scored twice in Saturday's 4-3 win over Tampa Bay. For the Sabres, Jochen Hecht (one goal, two assists) and Jason Pominville (one goal, two assists) are each on three-game point streaks. Clarke Macarthur scored the Sabres' only goal in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to the New Jersey Devils.

Who's not: Senators RW Shean Donovan has gone 12 games without a goal and C Chris Kelly hasn't scored in six games. The Sabres have been terrible on the power play on the road, ranking 28th in the league (13.4 per cent) in opposition buildings.

Who's missing: Senators, RW Patrick Eaves (shoulder, day-to-day), C Mike Fisher (flu, questionable). Sabres, C Derek Roy (shoulder, doubtful), RW Maxim Afinogenov (groin, doubtful), LW Daniel Paille (concussion), D Teppo Numminen (heart surgery, indefinite)

Next Senators game: Saturday versus Detroit Red Wings, Scotiabank Place, 7 p.m. TV: CBC. Radio: Team 1200 AM, Star 96.7 FM, 1220 AM, KIX 102.7 FM, Lake 88.1 FM
