THREE STARS

1. Calgary C Olli Jokinen: Particularly peppy evening for Finn. Uncharacteristically good at faceoffs. Authors opening tally.

2. Calgary D Jay Bouwmeester: Assertive effort against the visiting forwards’ considerable talents. Adds power-play goal.

3. Calgary G Miikka Kiprusoff: Possibly bored in patches. But squad’s most valuable player continues to prove his worth.

WHY THE FLAMES WON

Because in ending a two-game mini-skid, they erupt for three goals. One is rarely enough, despite the local gents’ persistent claims to the contrary.

Because they take advantage of a strangely listless bunch from Chicago. Five straight losses for those guys now. Curious. Nearly unrecognizable in their current state.
