Not now. Maybe, not ever.
Edmonton general manager Kevin Lowe said he'd had "not one" conversation with the Senators about the 38-year-old Oilers goalie, who has one year left on his three-year contract at $3 million US.
The Oilers may wind up moving Roloson, but it'll almost surely be after their training camp, and only if farmhand Jeff Deslauriers proves he's ready to be an NHL goalie.
Mathieu Garon and Roloson would share the netminding again if Deslauriers, who's been in the minors for four years, can't cut it in the pre-season. Even then, they may keep Deslauriers, 24, on the NHL roster to start the season because they can't send him back to the the American Hockey League without clearing waivers.
DAUM OFFERED SCOUTING JOB
Former Oilers assistant coach Rob Daum has been offered a job as an Oilers pro scout for the upcoming season, but has the green light from Lowe to take a coaching job with any other organization.
Daum, whose current Oilers contract runs out June 30, would be helping Dave Semenko scout the Western-based NHL clubs, as well as travel to the minors to scout kids should he decide to stay with the Oilers.
Daum is looking into a couple of job openings elsewhere, at the AHL and NHL level, but it's pretty preliminary.
The Detroit Red Wings who are looking for an assistant for Mike Babcock after Todd McLellan left to take the San Jose head job, are also in the market for an AHL coach after Mike Stothers was let go after one season with Grand Rapids.
Daum was interested in that AHL post last summer before it went to Stothers, a former Philadelphia Flyers defenceman who may have a shot at replacing Marc Crawford as the Los Angeles Kings head coach. Stothers has long-time ties to Kings assistant GM Ron Hextall.
Daum is also aware that the Chicago Wolves of the AHL are looking after their coach John Anderson was hired in Atlanta.
MINI-TOURNAMENT FOR ROOKIES
The Oilers rookies, along with the Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks and the University of Alberta Golden Bears, may take part in a mini-tournament, probably in early September.
The Bears might play their games at Clare Drake Arena, with the other games in Red Deer.
Several other NHL clubs do the same thing just before main camps open. Daum can remember going to Traverse City, Mich., where the Red Wings have their main camp, for a tournament when he was coach of the Wild's AHL club.
DO YOU BELIEVE IN FATE?
If you're into karma, a keen-eyed reader, Vance from Leduc, notes that Jordan Eberle, the Oilers' first-round pick last Friday, was born the same day (May 15) that Petr Klima scored in the third overtime period for the Oilers to beat the Boston Bruins in Game 1 of the 1990 Stanley Cup final -- the last time the Oilers won the NHL title.
Eberle has been called a centre but he's played a lot of wing in junior with the Regina Pats. If he makes the NHL, it could be in a Jonathan Cheechoo-type role as a sniper on the wing.
ON THE BENCH: What's the hold-up in officially naming Kelly Buchbergerthe new Oiler assistant coach?... Riley Nash, the Oilers' third first-round selection in 2007, has an excellent chance of being invited to Canada's summer under-20 junior evaluation camp. The 44-player roster is being announced very soon.
