Eight points were enough to earn Prince Albert Raiders forward Mark McNeill the latest Canadian Hockey League player of the week award.
The 18-year-old Edmontonian had five goals and three assists in only three games while accumulating a plus-7 rating.
He started his week on Wednesday with his first career four-goal game and added an assist in a 6-5 Western Hockey League loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers. He added a goal in a 7-6 Friday night win over the Kootenay Ice and chipped in with two assists in Saturday’s 6-3 victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
McNeill was the first-round pick (18th overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2011 NHL entry draft.
Meanwhile, Mark Visentin’s perfect week as a member of the Ontario Hockey League’s Niagara IceDogs earned him goaltender of the week honours.
Visentin posted his league-leading sixth and seventh shutouts of the season last week. On Thursday, he kicked out 26 shots in a 6-0 victory over the Belleville Bulls. He followed that up by kicking aside all 15 shots in a 3-0 win over the Brampton Battalion on Sunday.
Visentin, a 19-year-old from Waterdown, Ont., was drafted 27th overall by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2010 NHL entry draft.
