Mitchel Porowski scores twice in Ravens’ playoff win
Ravens 4, Patriotes 1
OTTAWA — Fresh off his Ontario University Athletics Eastern Conference rookie-of-the-year award, Mitchell Porowski continued about the task of become a playoff MVP.
The former member of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Gatineau Olympiques scored twice Wednesday night as the Carleton Ravens defeated the UQTR Patriotes 4-1 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final.
Porowski now has six goals in six games for the Ravens, who are one win away from the OUA championship game, but more importantly a berth in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport men’s hockey championships, which will be held March 14-17 at the University of Saskatchewan at Saskatoon.
They can get that win when they host UQTR at the Ice House Friday in Game 2 at 7 p.m. Should a Game 3 be required, it would be at Trois-Rivières Sunday afternoon.
Jeff Hayes and Joey West, while short-handed, also scored for the Ravens, who led 1-0 after one period and 3-0 after two. They were up 4-0 before Marc-Olivier Mimar broke Ryan Dubé’s shutout bid with 13 minutes left in the third period.
Dubé finished with 31 saves while Guillaume Nadeau turned aside 26 of 30 Carleton shots.
