MONTREAL — With only one more night of Just for Laughs galas to go, the Saturday-night galas were the strongest yet.
From Brownstein's review:
"Can't ever remember a JFL spectacle quite like this one. How else to describe a gala where host Seth Rogen promised to pander to the audience in the most Canadian way imaginable and ends the show by having: a) Youppi come out onstage with a wheelbarrow full of Timbits and toss them out to the crowd; b) young ladies dressed up as carhops dishing out Coffee Crisps and Ketchup-flavoured potato chips to the throngs; c) and P.K. Subban come out to fill the Stanley Cup with beer, so Rogen could fulfill a bucket-list dream of drinking out of it.
And, oh yeah, that wasn't even the most bizarre part of the show. That would have been American actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt dropping in with a guitar and crooning a Jacques Brel classic in perfect French. Turns out the star of 3rd Rock from the Sun, Looper and 500 Days of Summer is a francophile — and clearly a pal of Rogen.
In the midst of that lunacy was a darned solid comedy show with Hannibal Buress, Jerrod Carmichael, Al Madrigal, Joe Mande, Michelle Wolf and Jim Norton. And not one of them blew chunks — before the treats came out."
